• Gong Yoo Shared The Reason He Created An Instagram Account

Gong Yoo revealed the reason why he started communicating with fans by opening an SNS for the first time since his debut.

On the morning of December 30th, an interview with Gong Yoo, the lead actor of the Netflix original series 'The Silent Sea', was held through an online live broadcast.

Gong Yoo, who celebrated his 20th anniversary this year, surprised his fans when he opened his first Instagram.

Regarding this, the actor shared, “I started doing Instagram, and I’ve realized that a lot of my overseas fans are leaving lots of comments. I’ve made an Instagram account because of these overseas fans.” He added, “Fans from all over the world form groups to contact me and send me gifts. But yet, I had no way of communicating with them. I have a fan cafe that started years ago, but it’s not easy for overseas fans to join it.”

Gong Yoo added, “I was thinking about it while celebrating my 20th debut anniversary and decided to make an account. I’m just posting my pictures, but fans are loving it,” Gong Yoo said. “It’s not much, but they love it so much. It’s true that I didn’t wish for it (opening social media accounts), but I’ve put that down.”

Gong Yoo concluded, “I only have a few posts, but I can’t help but cringe when thinking about only posting cool pictures. So I uploaded a picture of the squids that I caught (laughs),” he continued. “Some of the old fans are worried about me doing Instagram. So I told them that my account will be somewhere between serious and whimsical slash wacky.”

“The Silent Sea” was based on a short film directed by Choi Hang Yong, which had been critically acclaimed at the 2014 Mise-en-Scène Short Film Festival. Actor Jung Woo Sung was a producer of the movie and a key player in turning the short film into a series.

Set in the future on a desolate Earth, it is about an investigative team sent to an abandoned lunar base for a secret mission. Bae Doona stars as the astrobiologist Song Ji Ahn, while Gong Yoo stars as the investigative team leader Han Yoon Jae.
